Executive Women of New Jersey (EWNJ), a premier organization serving women in executive roles in business, academia and government, is tackling this challenge head on. WHAT EXECUTIVE WOMEN THINK Trenton, NJ, (September 24, 2009) – The following comments were provided by leading executive women in New jersey in response to a query sent out by the Executive Women of New Jersey, an organization that serves women leaders in high positions of influence in corporations, academia, government and the non profit sector. We will periodically ask our members for their insights and views on key issues and will pass their comments along to you. As we launched the “What Executive Women Think” program we asked our members to comment on the recent announcement by Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke who was quoted in the New York Times as saying, "At this point the recession is very likely over." ASSOCIATION HITS $1 MILLION MARK IN GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS Trenton, NJ – October 23, 2009 - Executive Women of New Jersey (EWNJ) recently awarded $59,000 in graduate level scholarships to 22 outstanding women at the organization’s annual Graduate Merit Awards dinner in Somerset. FROM INSIDE THE BOARDROOM Florham Park, NJ - In 2005, the number of women on corporate boards increased from 11% to approximately 16%, but has not changed over the past four years. Studies attribute this stagnation to the economy and the decrease in the number of women in executive positions, which ultimately effects nominating committees' ability to place women on their boards. EWNJ Members meet with Governor Corzine
Princeton, NJ - On Tuesday morning, March 31, 2009, Governor John Corzine hosted the annual Executive Women of New Jersey event at Drumthwacket. Since 1994, the members of EWNJ have enjoyed the extraordinary privilege of meeting privately with the Governor for a breakfast program. During the hour and a half together, the Governor shared some key insights and observations regarding timely issues in the state before opening up the program to questions from the audience. Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) Chairman of the Board, President and CEO Ralph Izzo will serve as the event’s honorary dinner chair. Gwen Ifill, moderator and managing editor of ‘Washington Week” and senior correspondent for “The News Hour with Jim Lehrer,” will serve as guest speaker for the event, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick in New Brunswick, NJ. Proceeds from the biennial event will fund EWNJ’s scholarship program, which has provided over $875,000 in scholarships to more than 275 deserving New Jersey women enrolled in advanced degree programs at New Jersey institutions since instituting the program in 1986.
