Executive
Women of
New Jersey
2008
GRADUATE MERIT AWARD PROGRAM
One of EWNJ's most important
goals is to provide help and encouragement to the next generation of female
executive talent. EWNJ has been awarding scholarships for graduate
level study since 1986. Since that time, EWNJ has provided over 275
deserving women with more than $875,000--an accomplishment no other women's
organization in
New Jersey
can match.
EWNJ believes that by awarding
graduate merit grants every year we are further investing in the economy of
the State of
New Jersey.
This investment in women's leadership development is crucial to business
growth and development. According to a new study conducted by Caliper,
a Princeton-based management consulting firm that has assessed the
potential of more than two million applicants and employees for over 25,000
companies around the world, women leaders are more assertive and persuasive,
have a stronger need to get things done, and are more willing to take risks
than male leaders.
An important goal of EWNJ is to provide
encouragement and a strong foundation of leadership development for the next
generation of female executives. To advance this initiative, EWNJ
established the Graduate Merit Award Program in 1986, a scholarship program
to benefit women who are pursuing graduate level degrees.
In 2008, EWNJ intends to award grants of at
least $2,000 each. The maximum individual award will be $5,000.
In order to qualify, each nominee must be a female matriculating graduate
student who:
 |
has
completed at least twelve (12) credits at the time of nomination; |
 |
is carrying a minimum of six
(6) credits per term, which are in fulfillment of the requirements of the
intended degree, at the time of the scholarship award; |
 |
has been recommended by the
Dean/Director of their graduate program; |
 |
is a permanent
New Jersey resident (proof of residence must be confirmed by
your dean) attending school in
New Jersey. |
SELECTION PROCESS AND EWNJ
CRITERIA:
In addition to these requirements,
applications, especially those non-traditional students who may return to
their studies several years after their undergraduate degree, or those
students who may complete an undergraduate degree at a later age, will be
judged according to academic performance, financial need, and clarity of
career goals. The reviewers will seek a diversity of career goals
among the applicants.
Scholarship awards may be used for tuition,
fees, books and personal expenses, and are given directly to the student.
Applicants who work for companies that offer
tuition reimbursement are eligible to apply. EWNJ members are not
eligible to apply.
