EWNJ’s Statement on International Women’s Day

Today, we commemorate International Women’s Day by honoring all the members of Executive Women of New Jersey (EWNJ) for being trailblazers in their industries and places of business and serving as role models and mentors to countless young women in the state. For over 40 years, EWNJ has voiced that a woman’s place is in the boardroom and has advocated for policies that ensure women have equal opportunities and representation in senior corporate leadership.

As we all know, women have been historically marginalized and undervalued. The lack of representation negatively impacts morale, fuels imposter syndrome, and prevents women from reaching their full potential. It is our organization’s mission to change this narrative. EWNJ is a proud advocate for strengthening and fueling the professional pipeline by providing emerging women leaders with the resources to overcome barriers and ascend to senior leadership roles. According to our 2021 A Seat at the Table report, supporting women, and in particular, women of color, will not only benefit women but improve companies’ overall morale, organizational culture, and earning potential, and it will encourage employee retention and loyalty. EWNJ has championed the need to create opportunities for mentorship and advancement so that women can grow and lead.

This International Women’s Day, we encourage more women leaders to join our cause and mentor the next generation of corporate leaders. We also challenge companies to reflect on their internal structures and cultures and identify ways to ensure a place for women in their boardrooms and C-suites.
